Background:
- Paul is not saying to run in the Spirit but instead to walk
- We must become acquainted with the Holy Spirit
- Many talk about the Father and the Son, but very rarely do they talk about the Spirit
- We must know how the spirit works in us, through us, and for us
- Sanctification means to be set apart (Isaiah 6)
Key Sermon Points:
1. The command from God?
- Paul is speaking of a continuous act
- We are not being given an option but instead a command
- Walking implies where one in to where one will go
- Walking in the spirit is a long slow walk
- It is not a jog or a race
- We must be active in our walk
- It is the spirit that works but it is our job to keep moving
- The Christian is not to sit on the sideline and watch the Holy Spirit battle, we must get involved
- God only blesses those that are a moving target
- Believers are led by the spirit and must be willing to go where He leads us
- The flesh is like the ruts, they never go away
- We must bed led by the spirit and willing to follow
- If we are walking and obedient we will not walk in the flesh
- Our thoughts ought to be saturated with the truth, love, and the glory of the Lord
- We must recognize that we need the Holy Spirit
- Obedience to the word of God and living in the spirit means obeying his commands and seeking to align our life with his will
- We can not repeat what the scripture says when we have nothing in there to pull out
- We must know our word and study our word
- Studying our word allows us to be led by the holy spirit
- As we study God's word it is for transformation not information
- We must experience the intimacy of God
- God is concerned about us even when we are a messPaul is speaking of a continuous act

2. The conflict
- No one likes conflict
- As believers we should not enter foolish conflict
- Every battle is not a good battle
- If we love the Lord we will have conflict (Romans 7:17-20)
- If we feed the spirit then the spirit will win and not the flesh
- A re alliance with Christ will cause conflict
- When we try to do good evil is always present
- We must prepare for conflict in advance
- Each Christian has 2 natures that conflict with each other
- The flesh craves for the desires of the world
- We must feed the spirit to put out what the flesh craves
- The unsaved person does not have that problem because they do not have the Holy Spirit
- When we give ourselves to the spirit we will not do the things that we wish
- Once we open up that flesh it is hard to close
- A saved person often regrets their sinful things often because of guilt
- If we surrender to Jesus and allow the Holy spirit to take full control then we will be blessed
- The Holy Spirit will rule and reign in our lives
- We who are believers are not under the law because we are under the Spirit
- When we are not living by the Spirit then we are living by the law
- The flesh is powerless to fulfill the law
- The believers part in the conflict is to yield to the spirit
- We can tell when someone is not led by the spirit by how they act when under pressure
- Even though we have conflict when we are in Christ there is no condemnation
- God does not give us a license to sin
