Background:

  • Everybody needs to be encouraged
  • Listen actively without judgment
  • Listen to others, lift them up in a positive way, validate their emotions
  • We need to celebrate our family and friends
  • Acknowledge the challenging work they do
  • We as believers must encourage one another
  • Even if they're struggling, we can encourage them that it can get better

Key Sermon Points:

1. We can be encouraged by the examples of others

  • Believers should encourage their fellow brothers, teachers, etc
  • There are ones that always encourage and some that never encourage
  • Timothy delivers the good news that their faith in God was genuine
  • When you have true faith, it is demonstrated
  • Timothy was showcasing that their hearts were prepared
  • When faith is genuine, it does not care on circumstances
  • Our faith must be tested
  • When it is tried, it comes out like pure gold
  • Paul did not give up
  • We must rest on God's character and faithfulness
  • God's character is whatever is true, righteous, love, just, etc
  • God always shows up
  • When going through this life We are either going into a storm, currently in a storm, or coming right out of one
  • We don't know what will happen in our life but we must trust in the Lord and lean not on our own understanding
  • We must trust the Lord with all our heart and soul
  • They had authentic love since they turned their back to the world and turned to God
  • When greeting our brothers and sisters, it's deeper than just saying hello
  • A sincere love is looking out for our brothers and sisters. Practicing hospitality, honoring others and burying each others burdens
  • It was good news from the apostles that they were missed
  • When being a believer we must think "how can i impact someone else?"
  • Can we depend on one another in tough times?

2. Paul is encouraged by telling them that they are connected

  • We need others to encourage us and help us to keep pushing forward
  • This encouragement helps us push through till the end
  • Christians ought to encourage one other
  • How can you stand will determine how you live
  • It is important to make a stand
  • It's the prayer warriors that make a difference
  • Timothy's report was the shift of Paul's anxiety
  • Paul was not a giant by himself

3. We are encouraged when others are praying for us

  • We must pray for our leaders in the church that their faith may not falter
  • We must pray for each other
  • You don't have to be near a person to pray for them
  • Paul was not with Timothy but both were praying for each other because they knew the work was hard
  • We must pray for spiritual growth, steadfastness and unity (Colossians 1:9-12, Ephesians 3:16-19,Philippians 1:9-11)
  • Knowing that others are praying for you provides comfort and connection
  • All of us are going through, none of us are unscathed
  • When we are in our weakness, we must still pray
